Our History:
|
Villa Lodge Hotel first started in 1961 as a bed and
breakfast type of establishment in O.D. Brisbane’s
family home. Originally the home had 4 bedrooms and only
two bathrooms, but within a short time a juggling act
took place: the dining room and kitchen moved downstairs
and a new wing was added so that there were a total of
ten rooms. |
Downstairs the original children’s room was transformed
into a cocktail lounge called the “Orchid Room.”
Everyone loved it’s small size with intimate atmosphere
as well as the fact that it was air-conditioned, a rare facility
in those days.
The success of the Orchid Room inspired Bobby, the extrovert
in the family, to build the adjacent Crow’s Nest in
1966. It was a large entertainment facility that dominated
the scene for the next thirteen years. Every Wednesday night
the crowds would gather to enjoy themselves and even now many
persons routinely mention fond memories of their time spent
there.
In 1972 major changes took place at the hotel: all of the
rooms were made larger and each was given its own bathroom
and balcony. Then in 1979 it was the Crow’s Nest turn
when it was closed and converted into the Breezeville Apartments.
The apartments were a valuable addition to the entire property,
adding eight apartments to the hotel’s ten rooms. Even
today remnants of the night club can still be spotted, like
the terrazzo floor and the stone wall which held the drinks
for the bar. It was during the construction of the apartments
that the poolside area was added.
New projects have subsequently evolved to improve the standards
and service offered by Villa Lodge. In 1995 the lower-level
apartments were completely renovated with floor tiles and
natural pine partitions. The poolside area was also renovated
with an expansion of the bar and dining area. Around 1998
the hotel rooms were redecorated with new carpeting and furniture.
And just recently the upstairs apartments were refurbished
bringing them on par with their downstairs counterparts. So
you see, there’s always something happening and you
never know what surprise might await you on your next visit.
Come see for yourself!
